In addition to the iPhones, Apple has also released new smartwatches. But what exactly has changed? These are the main differences between the Apple Watch Series 9 and the Series 8!
Apple Watch Series 9 vs Series 8: the differences
Every year a new Apple Watch is released and this time was no different. But what’s new about the Apple Watch Series 9 and what are the differences with the previous version? We list the most important innovations for you!
Display: this is new
The display has received two updates this year. The screen has become a lot brighter. The Apple Watch Series 8 had a maximum brightness of 1000 nits. The Series 9 goes one step further and is now capable of up to 2000 nits (this is the same as the first Apple Watch Ultra).
In addition, the Watch can also turn the brightness down a lot. The minimum brightness is now 1 nit. Handy if you want to read the time in pitch darkness. And of course, this extra low brightness also saves a bit of your battery.
Furthermore, the screen of the Apple Watch Series 9 is the same as the Series 8. The resolution has remained the same, the screen edges are just as thin and it is just as sturdy.
Two new chips
The Apple Watch Series 9 has a number of new chips on board. The S9 chip in the smartwatch is now finally a major upgrade. The Series 8 had an S8 chip, which was actually the same chip as in the Series 7 (the S7) and the Series 6 (S6). According to Apple, the new chip is 30 percent faster than the one in the Series 8.
In addition, the Apple Watch Series 9 also has a second-generation ultra wideband chip. This makes locating your other Apple products (also with this new ‘U2’ chip) a lot faster and easier. The Series 9 then shows on the screen exactly where you need to go. Furthermore, the new chip also ensures that you see a control panel on the screen of your Apple Watch when you come near your HomePod.
Colors of the Apple Watch Series 9
Of course, the Apple Watch Series 9 is also available in different colors. Unfortunately, we only got one new color this generation. The Apple Watch Series 9 is now available in pink. There are also the aluminum colors starlight, midnight, silver, (PRODUCT)RED; or gold, silver and graphite for stainless steel.
More storage
Apple has given the storage of the Apple Watch Series 9 a nice upgrade. The Apple Watch Series 8 had 32 GB of storage. The Series 9 has doubled in size and now has 64 GB of storage. Enough space to take all your favorite music with you on the smartwatch while exercising.
New functions
In addition to finding your iPhone with the new ultra wideband chip, the Apple Watch Series 9 has a few new functions. For example, by tapping your index finger on your thumb (Apple calls this ‘Double Tap’) you can control functions on your Watch.
It’s a bit like the ‘Hand Gestures’ feature in ‘Assistive-Touch’ that you find on almost every Apple Watch. However, the new function worked faster and the function adapts (better) to what you are currently using.
Please note: Tap Double will not be available until sometime in October (according to Apple). Siri can also be used locally. So you no longer need an internet connection to use Siri
