Archiving conversations in WhatsApp

Completed conversations have their own place in WhatsApp. Clean them up, and they can always be found in the archive!

Some conversations in WhatsApp actually never end, such as within family groups. Other conversations are briefly interesting and will remove you. There are also conversations that are no longer interesting, but that you want to keep. WhatsApp has a digital archive for such chats. That archive is called ‘archived chats’. The conversations disappear from the normal conversation list. However, they can be found and opened.

  • In WhatsApp, tap the tab chats.
  • Swipe from right to left on the chat conversation you want to archive.
  • Tap on Archive.

The conversation disappears from the chat overview.
