The Toyota Corolla also gets a fierce GR version. Although Toyota itself does not say that officially yet, the brand confirms the arrival of a sporty taste of the Corolla through a number of cleverly hidden hints.
In November, Toyota already hid a small hint to the possible arrival of a GR version of the Corolla and after the two new indications that the brand is now giving, it cannot be other than that there is actually a horny Corolla in the barrel.
The American branch of Toyota posts a bunch of photos showing a Corolla between a set of shipping containers. Not very interesting at first glance, although a Corolla is hidden in a sticker sheet on the left of the photo. On the side of the car we read GR Four. In addition, this designation can also be seen on one of the sea containers. NA G16 GR Four can be read on a red container. G16 is the engine code of the crazy 261 hp three-cylinder that Toyota has in the Yaris GR. Whether NA in this case stands for North America or Natural Aspirated (without supercharging), remains to be seen, although it is most obvious that the three-cylinder in the Corolla will also get a turbo screwed on. The ‘Four’ part of the name refers to the presence of four-wheel drive.
Nothing is officially known yet about the possible arrival of a really sporty variant of the Toyota Corolla to Europe. The name GR Four is of course strongly reminiscent of the GT Four flavors that Toyota has supplied for several generations of Celica, including the ST205 generation, about which you can read an extensive story here.
