It is sometimes jokingly said that a Mercedes-Benz E-class is the perfect taxi. They think differently at Uber and Arrival. The latter now presents the Arrival Car, an electric car that was created in collaboration with Uber drivers.
Earlier this year it was announced that the British company Arrival and the taxi service Uber were working together on a car. Arrival now shows that simply ‘Car’ christened car. At least, it still seems to be a prototype. Uber drivers have been involved in the design process for months to optimize seating comfort, usability and safety. That led to this design.
The Arrival Car is a pretty minimalistic car, both inside and out. Everything revolves around functionality. The Arrival Car offers space for four passengers in the base, but if desired, the seats can all be folded to create more luggage space. The front passenger seat can then even slide completely under the dashboard. In the back there is plenty of legroom, as can be seen in the video below, enough to park even large suitcases in front of your feet. Perfect for on the way to an airport or hotel.
What is also striking is that quite a lot of glass has been used in the Arrival Car. Large windows and a panoramic roof should not only create a light and spacious atmosphere inside, but also provide a good view to the outside. The latter is especially nice, according to Uber drivers, since they often have to maneuver in tight corners and drive through busy cities. The B-pillar is positioned as far back as possible to also optimize the view of the blind spot. The dashboard of the Arrival Car is quite simple in design: the majority of things are operated on a central screen, on which passengers can also easily view information about the journey, for example.
More concrete details about, for example, the powertrain are not yet released. It is also not yet entirely clear when the Arrival Car will actually be ready for production and will appear on the road. At least before 2025, it is hoped for Uber, because then the company in London wants to drive exclusively electrically. Incidentally, from that year on, Uber will also oblige all its drivers in Amsterdam, among other places, to drive electrically. This should be the case throughout Europe by 2030. This Arrival Car plays an important role in this.
