Aston Martin comes with electric DB5 Junior

Aston Martin hasn’t been so busy with the DB5 in decades. Now a new ‘DB5’ is added; the Junior. As the name implies, it is one for the small car enthusiasts.

It is clear that the gentlemen and ladies at Aston Martin are crazy about their heritage. Especially the DB5 is a rewarding model in that respect. This spring, Aston Martin picked up production of a limited run of brand new DB5s; the ‘Goldfinger Continuation’. For the filthy rich Bond fan, shall we say. It doesn’t stop there, because now it proudly presents the DB5 Junior. An open DB5 that comes in size to two thirds of the original.

The roughly three meter long and 1.1 meter wide DB5 Junior looks like two drops of water on the original, but is mainly intended for a target group without a driving license: children. Anyone who looks at his or her wealthy father or mother very sweetly, can drive the DB5 Junior enviously. The DB5 Junior is a scale replica DB5 Volante in detail. It is not a pedal car; it also just has a motor in it. Not a straight-six, but a 6.8 hp electric motor.

Performance

It is not very wise to put too small children behind the wheel, because the performance is still quite serious. The DB5 Junior kicks it up to a speed of 48 km / h, although a limit to 19 km / h can also be adjusted via a special ‘Novice Mode’. In that mode, the car can also be switched off up to 30 meters away, or it switches itself off quietly if the distance becomes greater than that. In this way it is still somewhat prevented that junior suddenly starts a world trip with his Junior.

Although it is of course mainly intended for children, we would not be surprised if adults also want to get started. He is basically spacious enough for that according to Aston Martin. The faster DB5 Junior Vantage has an extra mode, with which the power can be increased to a mere 14 hp. It will also reach 64 km on a battery charge, but it is not yet known to what top speed it will reach.

price

It is of course a fairly exclusive story. It makes 1,059, just as many as of the original DB5. If you already have a DB5, you can have the Junior provided with the same chassis number if you wish. You have to have a deep pocket: the DB5 Junior costs (excluding taxes) converted just under € 40,000. The stronger DB5 Junior Vantage must cost a minimum of € 50,000. Aston Martin builds the cars together with The Little Car Company. Production will start next year and they will be delivered in the next two years.
