Aston Martin recovered somewhat in 2021. Although it was not an easy year for the car industry, sales of the British brand grew by a whopping 82 percent. However, there are still red numbers in the books, although the damage is less extensive than in 2020.
This large sales growth is mainly due to the DBX. Aston Martin sold more than 3,000 copies of the super SUV in 2021, which is about half of the total sales. In total, Aston Martin sold 6,178 cars last year, a significant increase compared to the 3,394 copies in 2020. As a result, turnover increased to the equivalent of €1.31 billion. Aston Martin’s loss, however, still amounts to €255 million, although it is a considerable improvement compared to the loss of €558 million that the brand made in 2020.
All in all, Aston Martin appears to be on the road to recovery. The brand wants to have the entire range electrified from 2026 and will introduce a plug-in hybrid variant of the DBX in 2024. The first electric Aston Martin would also be on the roll before 2025. It is not yet known what form this car will take. This year is the market launch of the DBX 707 and the new V12 Vantage. Aston Martin will also continue to supply hypercar Valkyrie. CEO Tobias Moers expects that these models and the mild-hybrid DBX for the Chinese market will ensure further growth of Aston Martin this year. It is estimated at eight percent. Furthermore, reorganizations in the factory and the logistics chain should make the brand more cost-effective.
