Aston Martin Valhalla becomes strongest model in line-up

The Aston Martin Valhalla is by far the most powerful model that the English supercar manufacturer has in its range. Aston Martin now releases the first information about the power station that should be able to give the Valhalla that title.

The Geneva Motor Show was the stage last year on which Aston Martin showed two new previews of new mid-engine muscle bundles: the AM-RB-003 and the Vanquish Vision Concept. The AM-RB-003 later got its final name: Valhalla. It was already known that this powerhouse named after the realm of Odin in Norse mythology will get a V6 behind the front seats and Aston Martin is now releasing the first information about that six-cylinder.

Aston Martin snatches the eight-cylinder that it uses in cars like the Vantage from the warehouse of the German Mercedes-AMG, but the new V6 that will be in the Valhalla has been completely developed in-house. The V12s that Aston Martin is currently using are distant developments of Ford’s Duaratecs V6. It is the first time since 1968 that Aston Martin has developed a new engine from scratch. The six-cylinder engine is internally codenamed TM01, a tribute to Tadek Marek, engineer at Aston Martin in the 1950s and 60s.

The six-cylinder has a 3.0-liter capacity and is a machine with a so-called ‘hot V’ layout, which means that the turbo (s) are located between the cylinder banks. This not only makes the motor more compact, but also more efficient on a thermal level. The power source puts in total less than 200 kilos in the shell. In the Valhalla, the V6 is in any case linked to a hybrid system. In addition to a regular hybrid, there is very likely also the arrival of a plug-in hybrid variant. The Valhalla will go into production in 2022 and will be about 1,000 horsepower.
