“Aston Martin’s hybrid V6 also to other models”

The hybrid powertrain with an in-house developed V6 that is fitted at Aston Martin in the spectacular Valhalla, is also reportedly making an appearance in other models in due course.

The V6 in question is the first engine completely developed by Aston Martin since 1968, as we concluded earlier. The Valhalla is a kind of light version of the Valkyrie and combines a blown 3.0-liter V6 with electric motors, creating a total power of around 1,000 hp.

That’s a bit much for a model like the Vantage or DB11, but Autocar thinks that a similar powertrain should replace the 4.0-liter V8 in (the successors of) those models and the DBX in the longer term.

The V8 in question comes from AMG. At the moment the block is still very topical, but in these times of increasingly stricter emission standards, such an engine does not have eternal life. That is why AMG is reportedly working on a hybridized version of an extremely upgraded four-cylinder, which should be able to replace the eight-burner in the long term.

Aston Martin wants to witness the V6 best downsize, but a four-burner would still be a bridge too far for the British. The six-cylinder initially presented in hypercars would therefore be the solution. Aston CEO Andy Palmer would have argued that such a V6 is perfectly capable of making the V8 forget, provided the electronics skillfully compensate for the lack of torque and the engine and exhaust noise are of an equivalent level.
