When you organize a dinner, it is nice for the guests to know what is on the menu, or even what delicacies they can choose from. We are going to make a nice menu in Word for this, which will certainly surprise your invitees!
If you’re not happy with Word’s pre-made templates, you can create your own design from scratch with a little effort. Departure from a new blank document with the tab Layout Bee Orientation indicates that you have a landscape format in mind. In this example you go for a folded menu that you place upright on the table.
You make each card from one A4 sheet. The card measures 12 by 17 centimeters when folded. Therefore you draw a rectangle of these dimensions with Insert / Shapes. To work very precisely, click on the shape with which the tab Form division comes into view. There you enter the height and width.
Bee Shape Fill indicate that there is no padding and at Shape contour choose a dotted line in a soft gray color and a line width of ½ point. Soon you will use this dotted line to cut out the card.
Insert picture
You insert the background image with Insert / Picture / Insert Picture of this device. Right click on the inserted image and select Text wrapping / Behind text. Then drag the corners of the image so that the image becomes slightly higher and wider than the rectangle you just drew.
Now click on the frame you have drawn. This will allow you to see the handles appear at the four corners and in the middle of each side. You can target such a handle to draw a line indicating the fold of the card.
Of Insert / Shapes select the shape Line. Hold down the Shift key and drag a vertical line down the center of the map. Again you have to set the thickness of the line to ½ point and the color to soft gray.
Add text
On top of the background is the title of the menu. In the tab Insert do you use the command Text box / Create text box. Then drag this box to the right place and type the text of the title. Format this text in the usual way. Choose a text color that matches the background.
After that you still have to remove the white background of the text box. So right click on the border of the text box and select the command Format Shape. When you right-click in the text box, you don’t see the Format Shape command. Make the background of the text box transparent.
Everything neatly aligned
Time for the inside. Make sure the ruler is visible. If not, use the tab Statue where you in the group View the subject Ruler ticks. With the tab Insert add a new blank page. Because the ruler is visible, you determine very precisely where the box for the menu text should be.
In the Insert tab, select the command text box and drag that box to the right place. Paste or type in this box the menu text that you have prepared beforehand. Choose an elegant and legible font. You can add graphic decorations if you like. Here we pasted an ornament from Google.
Print the front side first, put the card back in the printer, and then print the other side. Then cut the paper along the light gray dotted line. Your menu is ready!
