Audi A3 Sportback now also running on natural gas

Audi continues its natural gas chapter by also using a similar powertrain for the new A3 Sportback. This is the new A3 Sportback 30 g-tron.

Audi first introduced the alternative powertrain for the A3 Sportback in 2014. Now it is also high time for the new generation A3 to get acquainted with CNG (compressed natural gas) as a fuel. That’s what happens with this new 30 g-tron. Audi hides a 131 hp 1.5 TFSI in the nose. The torque is 200 Nm and is therefore equal to the 30 TFSI with 110 hp that likes petrol. The A3 g-tron sprints from 0 to 100 km / h in 9.7 seconds, pedaling up to 211 km / h.

According to NEDC measurements, the A3 consumes 3.5 kg of natural gas per 100 kilometers. Because the three tanks can store more than 17 kg, the A3 can travel 445 km (WLTP) on one full tank. Incidentally, the emergency fuel tank is also added to this: 9 liters of petrol can be stored in it in case the natural gas unexpectedly runs out. Under normal circumstances the engine will start on CNG. Only in exceptional cases, the emergency fuel tank is also used for this. The 30 g-tron emits less carbon dioxide (CO2) than the 30 TFSI. It emits an average of 96 grams of CO2 per kilometer. The 30 TFSI records values of 106 g / km.

In Germany, the A3 Sportback 30 g-tron will get LED headlights, the 10.1-inch screen for the multimedia and various safety systems as standard. The (German) delivery will start next fall. At our neighbors, the Audi costs at least € 30,705. The Dutch prices will follow.
