Audi A6 e-tron Avant for the camera with cameras

The yet-to-be-revealed fully electric Audi A6 e-tron not only drives in front of the camera, but also carries cameras itself. They replace the exterior mirrors, just like on the Audi Q8 e-tron, among others.

The Audi A6 e-tron has been in the air for a while. We were already presented with a concept version of the A6 Avant in March 2022. During the same period, our spy photographer captured the electric Audi A6 sedan for the first time. Audi is therefore taking its time, but it is still important that the newcomer is unveiled quickly. After all, rival Mercedes EQE has been around for a while, while BMW is currently rolling out the i5 in the Netherlands. This immediately tells you what kind of car this new A6 is: an electric limousine in the E-segment. Like BMW, Audi also markets the model as a station wagon. At Mercedes they don’t do that and the space-seeking customer is referred to the higher EQE SUV.

The Audi A6 e-tron already indicates that it is electric with that addition, but in the future the name ‘A6’ will actually be enough to know that. Audi has indicated that even numbers will be reserved for electric cars, while cars with combustion engines will receive an odd number. The regular A6 is therefore replaced by an A7. These are actually two separate models, because like Mercedes and unlike BMW, Audi chooses to market the EV as a separate model.

The Audi A6 e-tron Avant happened before, but can be seen a little better in these photos. This way, the rear side window shines through a little more clearly and we get a good view of the curved, high flanks of the car. Also interesting: where previously spotted A6s had traditional exterior mirrors, this example has the exterior mirror cameras that Audi once introduced on the first E-tron. We don’t think it’s necessary, but it will soon be possible on the new A6. The electric A6 will be on the market next year, so we hope to see its unveiling sometime in the coming months.
