While the Netherlands is still reminiscing about the bizarre final race of the Formula 1 season in which Max Verstappen took his first world title, Audi is also looking at the sport. CEO Markus Duesmann says that an entry into the sport is a serious possibility.
The Volkswagen Group and specifically Audi have been linked for some time to a possible entry into Formula 1. Until now, Audi has remained fairly silent about the chance that it will indeed join the racing class, but CEO Markus Duesmann is now opposed to the Danube courier a little more concrete. “We are in intensive discussions about the future new regulations in Formula 1. A particular focus is on the new engine regulations for 2026.”
In that year, the current hybrid V6 will be said goodbye and a new power source will be introduced in which electric power and synthetic fuels will play a greater role. That could make it attractive for Audi, says Duesmann: “No decision has yet been made whether Audi will enter Formula 1, but if Formula 1 becomes more sustainable, it could be interesting for Audi.” This month, the sport will again be discussing the future and Audi may also join. Either way, the interest is there.
Audi also seems to still be sitting around the table with McLaren for a takeover. It would reportedly be Audi not only about McLaren Automotive, but also the F1 team. Although it is still coffee grounds, a McLaren-Audi combination seems to be the most obvious for 2026.
