A2?
The Q4 e-tron is currently Audi’s most compact EV, but that will change in a few years. CEO Gernot Döllner explains according to Coach that there will be another EV underneath.
Attention fans of the Audi A2: there is a chance that another A2 is coming. Logically, the name has the greatest similarity with the striking mini-MPV from around the turn of the century, because you can bet that it will otherwise be a completely different car. CEO Gernot Döllner explains according to Coach that we should not expect a four-meter short EV, but an electric model that you should see next to the A3 and Q3. The name A2 would still make sense in that case, because Audi uses even numbers for EVs. Q2 could also still be possible, after all, the current Q2 must be retired anyway.
It also largely depends on whether Audi goes for a high-powered model or not. In any case, Döllner states that the car follows a ‘great and unique concept’, but we are not making much progress with that yet. He further says that it has not yet been decided on what basis the model will be based. In that sense, it cannot be ruled out that it will become a sister model to the Skoda Epiq, Volkswagen ID2 The Audi also seems to be getting a bit bigger and the MEB ‘Entry’ basis of those three is probably not Audi-worthy. It is more logical that it will be a sister model to the Skoda Elroq, among others.
Audi revived the A2 designation on an electric car in 2011, with the A2 Concept. That was a precursor to a compact EV with – just like its ancestor of the same name – a mini-MPV-like appearance. Ultimately, there was no production follow-up, but who knows, with his ‘unique concept’ Döllner may be referring to a car that takes up this idea again (in a larger format).
