Almost as many cars sold as in 2020

Audi can look back with satisfaction on the past year. It reports that 2021 was good for a record profit and that almost as many cars were sold in 2021 as a year earlier.
Audi closes fiscal year 2021 with an operating profit of €5.5 billion, the highest operating profit ever, at a profit margin of 10.4 percent. Turnover also increased significantly, with more than €53 billion, 6.2 percent higher than in 2020. The German brand, in its own words, managed to cope with the challenges of the chip crisis last year, and this is also apparent from the sales figures. . Audi delivered 1,680,512 cars in 2021, compared to 1,692,773 a year earlier, a contraction of less than one percent. Compared to 2019, sales still clearly lagged, because in the last year before corona, Audi still sold 1,845,550 cars.
The fact that it went relatively well financially last year, Audi in its own words mainly thanks to the Q3, Q5 and electric models. Audi sold 57.5 percent more fully electric cars in 2021 than a year earlier, 81,894 units compared to 52,011. According to Audi, daughter brand Lamborghini also contributes significantly. That had a record year last year, with the sale of 8,405 cars.
According to Audi, it also looks hopeful for this year. It is counting on delivery of between 1.8 million and 1.9 million cars, well more than the past two years and roughly at pre-corona levels. A higher turnover is also expected, namely between €62 billion and €65 billion. The further course of the war in Ukraine and of course also the chip shortage are still uncertain factors for this year.
