An announcement was already expected this weekend and with this teaser photo there is no doubt about it: Audi will participate in Formula 1.
Earlier this week it was almost certain that Audi will participate in Formula 1 as of 2026. Now Audi itself shares a teaser photo that leaves little to the imagination. We see the back of a Formula 1 car with a piece of Audi livery on it. “More rings are coming, stay tuned,” it reads loosely. On the rear wing of the F1 car is the Formula 1 logo, if there is still any doubt about what kind of race car we see here.
There is a good chance that Audi will reveal its plans for the future in Spa this weekend at the Grand Prix of Belgium. According to the latest rumors, Audi is taking a majority stake in Sauber’s Formula 1 team, which is currently still active in F1 under the Alfa Romeo flag. Sauber would develop and build the chassis for Audi, while Audi itself will build its engines in Neuburg, Germany. Sister brand Porsche will almost certainly join Red Bull in 2026 and will build its engines together with Red Bull Powertrains. It is likely that parent company Volkswagen Group will let the two compete against each other. We will undoubtedly hear more soon.
