Audi is introducing a new powertrain for both the Q3 and Q3 Sportback. The two crossovers will also be available as a plug-in hybrid for the first time from January 2021. It is not yet known what these 45 TFSI e’s will cost.
The big advantage of modular construction is that as a manufacturer you can have one powertrain in a large number of models. Audi is showing this once again with the introduction of the new plug-in hybrid versions of the Q3 and Q3 Sportback. We already know the 45 TFSI e baptized powertrain from Volkswagen, Skoda, Seat and even Cupra.
The plug-in hybrid flavors of the Q3 and Q3 Sportback have a 150 hp and 250 Nm 1.4 TFSI petrol engine under the hood that works together with a 110 hp electric motor. The system power is 245 hp. The two Q3’s 45 TFSI e thus sprint to 100 km / h in 7.3 seconds. The top speed of both types is 210 km / h. More interesting is of course the electric range. Both the Q3 and Q3 Sportback squeeze about 50 kilometers from the 13 kWh battery pack that is placed just in front of the rear axle. That does, however, take up part of the luggage space. Where the volume of the luggage compartment is normally 530 liters, you have to settle for 380 liters in the plug-in hybrids. The battery pack can be filled with electricity in 3 hours and 45 minutes at a 3.6 kW wallbox.
It is not yet known what the Q3 45 TFSI e and Q3 Sportback Q3 TFSI e will cost. Audi does say it expects the first copies in January 2021. Prices will undoubtedly follow soon.
