Welcome RS for Q6
Audi has a bunch of new electric cars in the pipeline. It will not only come with an electric equivalent of the A6, but also with a new electric SUV that will be called Q6 e-tron. There is also a fantastic sporty RS version of that electric Audi Q6 e-tron and it is that Audi RS Q6 E-tron – or Q6 E-tron RS – that we can now show you for the first time.
Together with Porsche, Audi has developed the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), a modular basis for electric cars with a relatively high position in the market. Porsche will park its future electric Macan on that platform, and at Audi, cars such as the yet to be revealed A6 E-tron, A6 Avant E-tron and Q6 E-tron will be based on that platform. The Audi Q6 E-tron – which also gets a sportier-lined Sportback brother – will undoubtedly be available with a range of electric powertrains. We now also know that there will also be a sporty top version with the well-known RS addition.
The arrival of the PPE platform is quite a ‘thing’ within the Volkswagen Group. Thanks to 800v technology, the new modular technology enables high charging speeds and is suitable for rear and four-wheel drive vehicles. At the presentation of the A6 e-tron study models, Audi indicated that power outputs of 476 hp and 800 Nm are no problem at all and the brand already hinted at the arrival of even stronger RS flavors in conversation with AutoWeek. Porsche recently released more information about its electric Macan and spoke, among other things, about a version with an output of 612 hp and 1,000 Nm. The brand did not rule out even more powerful flavors appearing later. In a sense, we also know what to expect from the Audi RS Q6 E-tron.
With 612 hp and 1,000 Nm, the power of the RS version of the Audi Q6 E-tron is already above that of, for example, the current RS6 Avant, which squeezes 600 hp and 800 Nm from a 4.0 V8. Thanks to the direct power delivery of the electric powertrain of the Audi RS Q6 E-tron, you can count on lightning-fast sprint times, despite the undoubtedly not exactly tender car weight. It is, among other things, the strong-looking brakes visible in these photos that give away that we are dealing with the RS version.
