Ladies and gentlemen, this is the Aura. A two-seater without a roof and windscreen, which, despite its quite spartan design, according to its makers embodies the future of sporty motoring.
The Aura is the baby of four British companies, each with their own specialism, who joined forces to unite their expertise in one car. The design was created in Astheimer’s design studio, the infotainment and digital instruments were developed by Conjure, the drivetrain and battery are the work of Potenza and BAMD has developed the composites that largely make up the Aura.
Nice and nice, but what have you got? Well, thanks to the design a car with a low air resistance, which is also light due to the use of materials and therefore uses the available electricity very efficiently. The Aura has an 88 kWh battery pack, large but increasingly common these days, with which a driving range of ‘more than 400 miles’, or more than 640 km should be possible. That’s pretty impressive. In addition, the Aura should be able to estimate the remaining range with 99.5 percent accuracy and report it on the infotainment screen placed centrally in the fairly bare cockpit. A screen on which we see a – at least visually – nice operating system.
While the range sounds promising, it’s still exciting to see what kind of performance is possible with the Aura. It is expected to be announced later this fall. It also remains to be seen whether there will really be a production version of the Aura or whether it is the prelude to more practically usable efficient electric cars.
