Austria tackles stunting motorcyclists

If you have planned to go to Austria by motorcycle this summer and are not averse to pulling your motorcycle on the rear wheel every now and then, think before you start. The Austrian government has opened the hunt for stunt riding motorcyclists – with fines of up to 10,000 euros.

Austria tackles stunting motorcyclists

Admittedly, the change of the Austrian Kraftfahrgesetz (KFG) dates back to 2018, but we have been told that next summer the Polizei in Österreich wants to monitor and enforce more strictly for the improper use of cars and motorcycles.

Since 2018, the Road Traffic Act has stipulated that things such as drifts, squeaky tires, burnouts and backfires can be fined, as well as situations where not all wheels have contact with the asphalt, which specifically means wheelies and stoppies. Wheelspin, locking wheels and donuts are also banned.

Fines start at 300 euros and can go up to 10,000 euros, and if the police suspect that they are dealing with a revolving door ‘criminal’, the car or motorcycle can be seized for up to 72 hours.

Although it is only a small group that uses the public road as a circuit, the call is getting louder in countries like Germany and Austria to close roads for motorized two-wheelers – at least from April to October.

Now we know from our own experience that the Austrian Polizei can very well conceal itself to do checks, but we don’t think you can get rid of it as easily as we did in 2004 during our first large one-litre supersport comparison test. . So just so you know, forewarned counts for two.
