Auto industry United States also further locked

Not only in Europe is it now full of measures in the car industry to prevent further spread of the coronavirus as much as possible. The ‘Big Three’ are also taking further measures in the United States.

General Motors, Ford and Fiat Chrysler are responding to the spread of the coronavirus in the United States. In conversation with the union, United Auto Workers, it has been decided to cut production in the American factories. There will be a ‘rotary’ closure of parts of the factories. Some of the factories are still in use, but there will be far fewer people working and the closed departments will be thoroughly cleaned in between, reports Reuters.

There is therefore no question of a total production stop and that continues to create friction between the union and the ‘Big Three’. The union is pushing for complete closure for at least two weeks. Models like the Ford F150, the Jeep Wrangler and the Cadillac Escalade will remain in production for the time being, but there is a chance that this will change in the near future.

Meanwhile, Tesla is being tapped on the fingers by the Alameda County Sheriff. According to him, Tesla is ‘not an essential company’ and so things should be scaled back there too. That decision then applies to the factory in Fremont. However, as far as is known, no decision has yet been made.
