The Autobianchi A112 was one of Autobianchi’s last convulsions and was sold as Lancia in its later days. This copy is officially from just before that time, but as a child of the eighties already carries a mountain of plastic with it.
The A112 first appeared in 1969 and lasted until 1986. With such a career it is only natural that the car was tinkered with from time to time, and that is also the case here. The car you see here is from 1980 and therefore from the fifth series of A112s. Compared to an earlier copy, it has considerably less chrome and considerably more plastic. With plastic bumpers, a black grille and a plastic frame around the rear lights, it was even so much that Autobianchi took a step back in this area after this edition.
Interesting about this copy is that we think we read ‘Lancia’ on the picture above the left rear light, while the car, given the year of construction 1980, we believe must still be an Autobianchi. The Lancia versions appeared later in the 1980s, not even always with a Lancia logo. The white car looks neat, but not in concours condition and is equipped with the fabric roll-top that was added to the option list shortly before the production of this car. It is a modest Junior version with 42 hp according to the license plate. That would mean that this is the basic version, but we cannot guarantee that. This copy came to the Netherlands in 2013 and gray import often means that data has been handled somewhat carelessly. Anyway, a charming appearance, such an A112, which is definitely worth cherishing.
