Since iOS 16, you can make the lock screen more personal and provide it with a custom layout. You can choose from standard wallpapers, but also use your personal photos. Did you know that you can also automatically change the wallpaper of the lock screen?
If you use your own photos, you can choose to automatically shuffle the photos. This means that every X number of minutes a different photo appears on the lock screen. This makes the experience even more personal.
Photos on lock screen
- Unlock your iPhone via Touch ID, Face ID or passcode
- Place your finger on the Lock screen
- Wait a few moments
- Edit mode is activated
- Tap the plus button
Complicated? Then customize the lock screen via Settings â–¸ Wallpaper â–¸ Add new wallpaper.
Tap ‘Shuffle Photos’ at the top. Then choose a desired category and then the Shuffle frequency. This can be done when tapped, when locked, every hour or every day. Confirm with the ‘Use featured photos’ button. Then you can edit the formatting of the photos.
Since iOS 17.1 and iPadOS 17, you can also use an entire album from your photo library as a source. To do this, select ‘Album’, choose the desired album and the software will automatically switch between the photos.
Manually select photos
Don’t want to use categories and featured photos? Then you can also choose your own photos. To do this, tap ‘Select photos manually’. Your photo library will then open and you can select your favorite photos one by one. Afterwards you can add new photos by editing the lock screen and tapping the six rectangles.
Edit photo formatting
Once you’ve chosen your desired photos, you can edit them. This way you can provide them with an effect including duotone or color wash. Tap the three dots to edit the effects. This way you can also adjust the Shuffle frequency. Do you have a lot of photos? Choose ‘When locked’, the image is changed every time you lock the screen.
