Asian brands are known for keeping the option lists organized. In some cases you can even check nothing extra at all, such as with the Hyundai i20 i-Motion.
Hyundai i20 1.2 MPI i-Motion
€ 18,635
With the arrival of the new i20, Hyundai showed that it is heading in a more daring direction in terms of exterior design. The B-segmenter got sharper lines and the angular headlamps merge seamlessly into the grille, which with its horizontal and vertical bars is becoming a signature design element for Hyundai. The lights are the most eye-catching at the rear. They seem visually connected, but the i20 does not have a large LED bar on its boot lid, as is the case with many other cars today.
Engine wise, the i20 has two different versions: an 84 hp naturally aspirated 1.2 MPI four-cylinder, or the 100 hp blown 1.0 T-GDI three-cylinder. The difference between the two power sources really comes to the fore in the torque: the 1.2 has to do with 118 Nm, while the three-cylinder squeezes 171 Nm thanks to its turbo. For the basic version i-Motion, the engine choice is limited to the 1.2 MPI, the Comfort and Comfort Smart are the only two versions that are available with both power sources. The versions above, Premium and Premium Sky, are always tied to the T-GDI. People who prefer to leave the shifting to technology will also have to look to the three-cylinder: the 1.2 MPI is only available with a manual five-speed gearbox, for the seven-speed automatic transmission with double clutch, you have to be with the 1.0 T-GDI.
The only choice
Okay, back to basics. As mentioned, there is not much more to choose from when configuring the i20 i-Motion. Fortunately, you can still determine which paint color your car will get. The i20 is painted in ‘Polar White’ as standard, for € 695 it will be ‘Sleek Silver Metallic’. For an additional € 100 you can choose from seven different pearlescent lacquers with exciting names such as ‘Dragon Red’, ‘Intense Blue’ and ‘Mangrove Green’. A more cheerful outfit for the basic version is therefore possible.

However, that does not apply to the wheels, because on the i-Motion they are always 15-inch models made of steel. Alloy is not available as an option from the factory. The i20 does have a tire pressure monitoring system as standard. In addition, there are no exterior mirrors or door handles in black plastic on the i-Motion. Those outside mirrors are also heated. Halogen light shines from the headlights of the base i20, but a light sensor is fitted as standard. You have to rely on your own eyes for parking, because the i-Motion has no parking sensors.
It can be anything …
… As long as it’s black. Black fabric, that is, because that is the only choice for the covering of the i-Motion. Furthermore, it is mainly black plastic that strikes the clock, with slightly lighter plastic on the dashboard as a ‘decorative frame’. Hyundai limits the amount of manual work for the driver, as both the mirrors and all four side windows are electrically operated. The gear lever and the striking four-spoke steering wheel are made of plastic, but the steering wheel does have buttons for operating the on-board computer and the multimedia system as standard.

That system has only a small screen in the i-Motion, for the larger 8-inch screen you have to go to the Comfort. DAB +, Bluetooth and a USB connection are available as standard. The on-board computer has a 3.5-inch screen between the counters. Furthermore, the i20 has manual air conditioning in its basic trim. So you don’t have to pay extra to keep your head cool in the summer. Cruise control is also standard. In terms of safety systems, the i-Motion has Lane Keeping Assist, Front Collision Assist with pedestrian recognition, traffic sign recognition and eCall.
When configuring the i20 i-Motion, it is therefore a matter of big steps, quickly at home. More options are not available. However, when compiling the i20, you can choose from richer trim levels. With the Comfort, from € 20,335 you get 16-inch alloy wheels, a reversing camera, a digital dashboard and an 8-inch multimedia screen. With the Comfort Smart, which is in the price list from € 21,335, the size of that screen is 10.25 inches. The Premium adds an additional € 3,000 fully automatic air conditioning, adaptive cruise control, seat heating, LED lighting and a Bose audio system. Would you prefer a little more light in the interior? Then the most expensive Premium Sky version with its glass sliding / tilting roof for € 25,635 is a suitable choice. Do you still have something to think about?
