Baojun Yep

Anyone in the market for an electric car can already choose from a huge arsenal of large SUVs, compact crossovers and even hypercars. As far as we are concerned, there are still far too few cuddly electric off-road vehicles, but fortunately here is an electric off-roader that confirms its existence with its model name. This is the Baojun Yep.

Those who regularly visit our website are undoubtedly aware of the existence of Baojun. Like Wulin, Baojun is a brand of a collaboration between General Motors, the Chinese Saic Motor and Liuzhou Wuling Motors. Baojun sells a whole range of MPVs, hatchbacks, crossovers and SUVs, but also has three electric city smalls on offer: the E100, E200 and the recently renamed KiWi EV E300, of which there is also a stretched version. Baojun now adds a variant to that model family of compact EVs that looks like he is brave enough to take a step off the asphalt.

Baojun KiWi EV

The Baojun KiWi EV is Baojun’s largest small EV after the Yep.

This is the Baojun Yep, a 3.38 meter short EV that, despite its limited length, is about 40 centimeters longer than the KiWi EV. The cheerful compact EV has a wheelbase of 2.11 meters, is 1.69 wide and 1.72 meters high. The Yep weighs just over 1,000 kilos and has a 68 hp and 140 Nm strong electric motor that drives the rear wheels. There is no four-wheel drive variant. According to the not very accurate Chinese CLTC cycle, the Baojun Yep can travel more than 300 kilometers on a full battery. Its top speed: 100 km/h. Although its compact dimensions suggest otherwise, the Baojun Yep offers space for four occupants. We find an interesting design detail on the back. A square ornament on the tailgate refers to a spare wheel that can often be found here on off-roaders.

Extensive specifications are not yet available, so unfortunately we cannot yet tell you what the Chinese consumer has to pay for this cuddly EV. Are you charmed by a compact electric car with a Jimny-like shape? Then you can also contact Suzuki in the future. Suzuki has a series of electric newcomers in the pipeline for the European market, including an electric kei-car-like and an electric equivalent of the Jimny!

Can you see yourself buzzing through the city in a Baojun Yep? Why or why not?
