What is special about barley is that it is in terms of its Nutritional values provides a lot of carbohydrates and fiber and at the same time contains little fat. The nutrients therefore also have an effect on the body:

  • Barley contains very high levels of the dietary fiber beta-glucan. This fiber works to lower cholesterol, according to a report from the ARD.
  • In addition, barley can lower blood sugar levels and is therefore according to one study suitable for diabetics: indoors.
  • Also found one study from Lund University found that barley has positive effects on the metabolism and thus makes an important contribution to digestion and your physical well-being.

      You can use barley as Barley flour or processed as malt (for example as beer or whiskey). Another option is barley water.

      • The special thing about barley water is, on the one hand, that it – like tea or water – is urinary and ensures a balanced water balance in your body.
      • At the same time, you benefit from the many advantages of barley mentioned above without using excessive barley flour, which is not very bakeable, or drinking malt beverages.

      You can also make barley water yourself.

        Refreshing barley water

        • Preparation: about 5 minutes
        • Cooking / baking time: approx. 130 minutes
        • Quantity: 0.75 liters

        Ingredients:

        • 1 l

          tap water

        • 100 g

          Barley barley

        preparation

        1. Wash the barley caterpillars briefly under running water.

        2. Put the tap water and washed barley barley into a saucepan and bring the mixture to a boil. Once it comes to a boil, turn down the heat.

        3. Let it simmer on low for a good two hours. A yellowish pulp will develop over time. Occasionally stir your barley water.

        4. Strain the mushy broth with a sieve.

        Tips:

        • You can drink barley water warm or cold.
        • Keep the barley water in the refrigerator. It can be kept there for two to three days.
        • You can – depending on your taste – with two tablespoons of honey, one squeezed lemon, one teaspoon cinnamon or refine 100 ml of your favorite juice.
