Rijkswaterstaat advises road users to be alert this weekend and to keep an eye on all weather and traffic information due to the predicted winter weather.
Winters are expected this weekend and that will probably continue well into next week. In some places, up to 20 centimeters of snow may fall this weekend. For the time being, people are not advised against taking the road. This is only possible if more information is available, but there is an appeal to be alert to the circumstances and the advice. “If necessary, we can still adjust our advice”, says a spokesman for Rijkswaterstaat. That has more manpower ready to help if necessary. “That is part of combating slippery conditions. More people are always on the move between October 1 and May 1.”
The ANWB expects it to be better than expected on Saturday with the traffic at the roadside assistance, but is counting on more breakdown reports on Sunday. “Even though the real devastation is in rush on Monday morning. Then we expect six hundred extra breakdowns,” said the spokesman. The occupancy has therefore increased significantly on Sunday and Monday. Perhaps unnecessarily, but the ANWB advises to wipe all snow off the car before departure, to keep an ice scraper at hand and to ensure visibility through all windows. “And don’t keep the lock defroster in the glove compartment, but in your handbag or jacket pocket.”
