Better in the picture: BMW 545e xDrive

BMW has lifted the new plug-in hybrid variant of the 5 Series to the podium. For the first time, extensive images of the 545th xDrive Sedan are available.

At the introduction of the revised 5-series, BMW already announced the arrival of a new plug-in hybrid variant: the 545th xDrive. This plug-in version is the second plug-in hybrid version that BMW offers from the 5-series, since both the Sedan and Touring were already available as 530e (xDrive). However, the new 545e xDrive powertrain is reserved for the four-door.

Where the petrol engine in the 530e’s is a 2.0 four-cylinder, there is a 286 hp six-in-line in the nose of the 545th xDrive. As in the 530e, the combustion engine is linked to a 109 hp electric motor. Together with the electric heart, this provides a system power of 394 hp and 600 Nm, which is distributed over all four wheels via an eight-speed Steptronic transmission. The 545th xDrive sprints to 100 km / in 4.7 counts. The top speed is 250 km / h.

More interesting, of course, is the electric part of the powertrain. Thanks to a 12 kWh battery pack, depending on the chosen equipment level, you should be able to travel between 54 and 57 kilometers electrically on one charge. In addition, you can drive up to a speed of 140 km / h electrically before the petrol engine kicks in. The battery pack is located under the loading floor, which means that the luggage compartment with a capacity of 410 liters is somewhat smaller than that of the regular petrol and diesel models (530 liters). The 545th xDrive can be set in the modes Hybrid, Electric and Hybrid Eco Pro. In addition, there is a Sport mode that uses the full power of 394 hp.

The 545th xDrive Sedan will arrive at dealers later this year. Dutch prices will follow in the run-up to the market launch.
