BetterMe is for people who cannot meditate, but need it. This way you can actively meditate while walking, cooking and even running. We have put the app to the test and are enthusiastic.
BetterMe: you can learn to meditate
Meditation seems to be gaining in popularity. The advantages are therefore obvious: more peace of mind, a better night’s sleep and less worries. Yet many find it difficult to find the time for it every day. BetterMe is a nice entry-level for those people. These are the three main features.
1. For people who cannot meditate
To start with the most important promise: BetterMe has the slogan that the app is aimed at people who cannot meditate. Most people have tried to sit in a chair and monitor their breathing, but cannot sustain it.
BetterMe therefore approaches it in a different way. In the ‘Moments’ menu you choose meditations where you are not passive, but active. During the walking meditation, for example, it is about consciously working with the steps you take, and not with your thoughts.
The same kind of meditations are there for you to fall asleep, while cooking, and even when you’re running. Admittedly, this is of course not meditation in the traditional sense, but it is a fun way for beginners.

2. Take a break
Another pleasant feature is the breathing exercise, which appears directly on the screen as soon as you open the app. You can choose different reasons why you want to take a breath, after which the app guides you during the inhaling and exhaling.
For example, you may feel anxious, irritated, or sad. By just watching your breathing for a few minutes, there is no way to be preoccupied with your thoughts. Everything in your head is busy breathing in and out. The app keeps your attention by varying the number of seconds.
3. What is your goal?
When you are no longer a total novice, you can dive a little deeper into the world of meditation. BetterMe contains various ‘Journeys’, in which you can learn how to deal with a specific circumstance. There are courses to fall asleep better, to structurally reduce stress and to gain more self-confidence.
These Journeys last several days and are often no longer than five minutes each. In this way BetterMe sticks to its target group: people who cannot meditate and are easily distracted from long sessions.

Good, but pricey
BetterMe has a seven-day trial period, which you must cancel yourself. After this you pay 42 dollars per six months, converted more than 36 euros. This is a considerable amount, and the range of Journeys and breathing exercises is currently still limited. It is therefore really up to your personal situation whether you think the app is worth the money. However, trying for free never hurts.
