Bizarre: Apple Vision Pro weighs as much as the largest iPad Pro

The Vision Pro has been officially available to order in the US since January 19. Since then, a lot of new information about AR/VR glasses has emerged. For example, the weight of the Apple Vision Pro. Spoiler: it’s heavy.

In the run-up to the launch of Apple’s AR/VR glasses, the Vision Pro, the people who had already tried them agreed: they are quite heavy. But how heavy exactly, no one could say. Apple itself didn’t say a word about it either – until now!

It shouldn’t be a big surprise, but the early reviewers were right. Compared to other glasses, the Vision Pro is relatively heavy. Apple says that the AR/VR glasses weigh between 600 to 650 grams. That’s almost as much as an iPad Pro 12.9-inch (682 grams)! Now that comparison is a bit unfair, because the center of gravity of the tablet is completely different, but this means you know approximately what to expect.

Comparison with other glasses

The weight of the Vision Pro is also quite high compared to AR/VR glasses from other brands. Below we list some of the most popular models.

As you can see, the Apple Vision Pro is generally heavier than other glasses, except for the Meta Quest Pro and Valve Index. But what you shouldn’t forget is that the Vision Pro has an external battery. The other models (except the Valve Index) all have a built-in battery. That secretly makes the Vision Pro even heavier compared to the others. The external battery weighs an additional 353 grams.

What does it matter?

The key question is: how much does that matter? We know that Apple is quite good at absorbing the high weight with smart carrying technology for the AirPods Max. With the Dual Loop Band and the Light Seal cushions, the company ensures – according to reviewers – a high level of wearing comfort.
