The new look of iOS 26 on your iPhone is cool, but the lock screen also has something special. Meet spatial scenes!
iOS 26: With this function you never want to unlock your iPhone
When you see iOS 26 for the first time, the new look immediately stands out. Icons and windows have received a good makeover and seem to have been made of glass. However, that is not the only thing that Apple has changed. There are more new functions that catch the eye!

With iOS 26, Apple also has a nice surprise for anyone who wants something special with his lock screen. With this you can provide almost every photo with a 3D effect. Apple calls this function spatial scenes (or in English: spatial scenes) and your lock screen will look a bit like a kind of viewing box.
The nice thing is that this function works with many photos. It even works with drawn pictures and old photos. But we have to admit: it always works well. To make the position do its job well, there must be many depths in the image. The iPhone must also be able to recognize these depths well.
Whether a photo is suitable cannot really be decided in advance. Usually it is trying out once to see what the result is. Also useful to know: the 3D effects only work on the lock screen of iOS 26 and are not available for the home screen.

If you already have iOS 26 on your iPhone, it is easiest to try out the function by opening the photos app. Once you’ve chosen a photo, tap the icon to share. Choose ‘Use as a background’ and tap the icon that looks like a hexagon.
Below you can see the result of one of our photos. Here we used a photo from a few years ago to show that it is also possible with an older photo.

These iPhones do not get iOS 26
iOS 26 becomes available on almost all iPhones that support iOS 18. But there are a few exceptions. Three iPhones do not get the update to iOS 26, namely:
- iPhone XS;
- iPhone XS Max;
- iPhone Xr.
