BMW enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the 2-Series Coupé, which can go through life without the front-wheel drive of the 2-Series Gran Coupé and the questionable grille of the larger 4-Series Coupé. The new two-door now shows its classic profile.
The two-door 2-series showed up before, but we did not want to withhold the first photo in particular. The plate shows a classic profile, with a visibly shorter front overhang than on the 1 Series and 2 Series Gran Coupé. The strong wedge shape of these models is replaced by a striking horizontal, elongated profile.
Also in comparison with the current 2-series Coupé, the newcomer looks a bit more stretched, while the current 2 is in turn a lot less stocky than its predecessor 1-series Coupé. The fairly large wheel arches, long nose and short butt complete the apparently beautiful coupé picture. That the place where the well-known Hofmeister nod belongs is still jealously camouflaged, also bodes well.
Grille
Another important question is whether the 2-series will get the grille of the 4-series coupé. After all, that car also has all the traditional Coupé elements, but the gaping hole behind the number plate is certainly not to everyone’s taste. The 2-series shown is still quite camouflaged, but seems to get a more horizontally oriented, smaller grille. The headlights are placed strikingly high in the nose.
Un camouflaged
What we see at the moment of the test-2 fits neatly into the picture of the previously spotted in the factory, uncamouflaged BMW. It seems more and more likely that this car is a 2-series Coupé, so take a good look at those photos.
It is not surprising that the 2-series looks so classic. Unlike the 1 Series, 2 Series Gran Coupé, X1, X2 and 2 Series Tourer, the model is not on the front-wheel drive UKL platform. Instead, it rests on a shortened version of the rear-wheel drive platform on which, for example, the 3-series also stands. In addition to the Coupé shown here, a Cabrio may also be released, although it has not yet been spotted in public.
