BMW 4-series Coupé and Convertible

After about three years, BMW is giving the 4-series Coupé and the 4-series Convertible a facelift. You don’t have to count on earth-shattering changes. In fact, you probably have to look closely to see the differences with the original.

BMW often states that a model is about two to three years old and what it is Life cycle Impulse calls on a model. So a facelift. This time it concerns the now three-year-old BMW 4-series Coupé and Convertible.

You can recognize the updated BMW 4-series Coupé and 4-series Convertible by the revised bumper work and the new lighting all around. For example, the relatively flat light units have been given a new layout, with the low beam and high beam now using the same LED module. The vertical, arrow-shaped LED elements house the LED daytime running lights and the direction indicators. The light signature at the rear has also been changed slightly. Not a fan of the large kidney grille? Bad news: it will simply be retained. BMW optionally supplies adaptive LED headlights and viewers that – with the optional M Sport package Pro – are darker. Those who have the adaptive LED headlights also get Laser light taillights. These were introduced on the M4 CSL and have now trickled down to the regular 4-series Coupé and Convertible.

No facelift without the introduction of new colors and new alloy wheels. Inside, BMW’s 4 Series Coupe and Convertible retain their curved display behind the steering wheel. Ambient lighting and electrically folding exterior mirrors are now part of the standard equipment. New steering wheels are also available. BMW is tightening up its iDrive system and from now on, the climate control in the seat heating can be controlled via the display or by voice command. Detail work: the ventilation system outlets have new controls.

engines

The BMW 4-series Coupé and Convertible will be available as a 184 hp 420i and as a 245 hp 430i xDrive. Both engine versions are four-cylinder and have an eight-speed automatic transmission. Above this is the M440i xDrive, the M Performance version with a petrol engine that produces 374 hp and 500 Nm. The M440i xDrive has a mild-hybrid six-cylinder.

Diesel is possible with the mild-hybrid 420d with or without xDrive, although the Cabrio is not available with 420d xDrive. The 420d has 190 hp and four burners. One step above is the 286 hp 430d xDrive. That machine is also a mild hybrid, but has two extra cylinders. In the 4-series Cabrio, the 430d is only available with rear-wheel drive. There is also an M Performance version for diesel. It is again called M440d xDrive and has a 340 hp mild-hybrid six-cylinder.

The Dutch market introduction will take place in March. Prices are not available yet.
