BMW 7 Series without plating

The new BMW 7-series has been regularly featured on this site in recent months, in both regular and electric i7 form. Today we get it in front of the lens again, but this time without the sheet metal that has to obscure the shape.

With that sheet metal we don’t mean the actual bodywork, but the ‘plates’ that have been placed over the body like a kind of armor to obscure the shape. We have now reached a test phase where that extra ballast is no longer desired, because today the 7-series will pass without that stuff. Of course he is still camouflaged, but the shape of the flanks, hood and butt is much better visible.

From the side it is also all the more noticeable that the side window has a fairly striking shape. At the top of the long rear door there is a clear ‘kink’, where it is a smoothly sloping line with most other BMWs. The well-known Hofmeisterknik, one floor below, is more clearly present than in the current 3-series, for example.

We already knew that the 7-series will have a striking front, but this part of the car also comes into view just a little better. We see rectilinear headlights placed quite low in the nose. They are expected to be accompanied by a set of daytime running lights at the top, in a separate unit. The grille is, as we are used to from BMW nowadays, very large. If you look closely, you can see the ‘kidneys’ extending just above the license plate.

At the rear, the license plate is also placed in the bumper, which has never been seen before on a 7 Series. This layout creates space for wide rear light units that extend far into the tailgate. The spotted copy has four exhaust tailpipes under the bumper. It is therefore not an i7, but a plug-in hybrid copy with most likely a six-cylinder on board.
