BMW and Mercedes join the queue of exhibitors who will not be present ‘live’ during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The brands are not completely withdrawing, but are doing their presentations digitally because of Covid.
BMW itself comes out with the news, while we have to rely on Cnet for the step of Mercedes-Benz. It is not very surprising, because many other parties also say that they do not want to be physically present at CES. The latest cancellations also include major tech players such as IBM and Panasonic. For them, the Las Vegas electronics show may be even more important, as the importance of CES to automakers has only grown significantly in recent years.
Earlier it became clear that GM is not coming to Las Vegas and also canceled Google’s autonomous driving branch Waymo. The organization of CES then explicitly indicated that the fair will go ahead anyway, so there is no reason to assume the opposite for the time being.
