There is a little S 1000 RR arriving at BMW. That is, in India. BMW Motorrad India has posted a teaser video on its YouTube channel announcing a new RR, which will presumably be the new G 310 RR.
We get it. Supersport motorcycles have passed their peak here for years, but they appeal enormously to the imagination on the other side of this planet in countries such as India and Indonesia. And especially in the light, affordable segment up to about 400cc.
In an 11-second video, BMW Motorrad India has now announced a new RR, which will be unveiled shortly. Now we don’t know which engine it is this time either, but we do have a very strong suspicion what it will be.
BMW’s Indian partner TVS put the Apache RR 310 on the market quite a few years ago, a single-cylinder supersport that has many similarities with BMW’s G 310 R Naked in terms of specifications. The same 312cc single-cylinder, good for 34 hp, and basically the same bicycle section.
The step to market a version with the BMW logo is then a small step. All they have to do to make it a real BMW is make sure that the design is very close to that of the current S 1000 RR. Or perhaps better yet, the M 1000 RR.
If the G 310 RR is technically the same as the TVS Apache RR 310, then there could also be a serious market for it in Europe, provided they can keep the price somewhat acceptable. The Apache is very richly equipped.
For starters, the Apache RR 310 has no fewer than 4 riding modes – Sport, Track, Urban and Rain. In Sport and Track, the 312ccc single-cylinder delivers 34 hp @ 9,700 rpm and 27.3 Nm of torque at 7,700 rpm, in Urban and Rain it’s skimmed to 25.8 hp @ 7,600 rpm and 25 Nm @ 6,700 rpm. Multiple driving modes also means that it has no old-school throttle cable, but modern ride-by-wire throttle control.
In addition, the Apache has a 5″ TFT color display that is mounted vertically – just like a smartphone. Of course with Bluetooth connectivity, so that you can connect the bike to the TVS app. They themselves call the TFT a Multi Information Race Computer. The display has different layouts and can also be used as navigation via the app.
The most convincing argument that the now announced model is indeed the G 310 RR, however, is in the 11-second video itself. The image of the rear light, with RR logo in the license plate holder, is exactly the same as that of the Apache RR 310.
A second video posted to Instagram shows the bottom half meter of the RR, which becomes visible when a roller door is raised. And that picture is exactly the same as the Apache.
The G 310 RR will be unveiled by BMW Motorrad India on July 15, or whether it will also be brought to Europe is unknown at this time.
