BMW Motorrad has sold the 10,000th G 310 RR in India and celebrated it with a special Limited Edition. Only 310 pieces are built, each with unique striping, a numbered badge (1/310) and a choice of Cosmic Black or Polar White. A nice party, but unfortunately one for which European riders are not invited.
The G 310 RR is essentially the sporty brother of the G 310 R that we know here, but with full tub, TFT dashboard, four driving modes (track, sports, urban and rain), a slipperclutch and ABS. The block is the same liquid -cooled 312cc single -cylinder with 34 hp and 27 Nm of torque, linked to a six -speed gearbox. With upside-down fork, aluminum swingarm and Michelin pilot street tires, the small RR is surprisingly mature-and the looks are strongly reminiscent of the iconic S 1000 RR.
And the price? In India, the Limited Edition is on the showroom floor from 299,000, converted less than € 3,200. With that, the G 310 RR nestles right next to entry -level bangers such as the Yamaha R3 and Kawasaki Ninja 500. Only: we don’t have that choice here, because BMW refuses to bring the RR to Europe.
A missed opportunity, because the market for light sports engines is growing. While brands such as Kawasaki and Yamaha firmly fill in that segment, BMW sticks to only the naked 310 R and the GS variant. Especially now young drivers and loafers yearn for affordable, light sports machines with a real experience.
In short: BMW, what are you waiting for? Bring that G 310 RR to Europe – this is exactly the engine we need here.
