BMW showed this Concept Touring Coupé on the opening night of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2023. In their own words, it is a one-off to show how nice it is to tour in pairs. And the car is therefore fully equipped to go out in style with two people.

At an event like the one at Villa d’Este, everything revolves around history and that is why this Concept Touring Coupé was shown there. BMW once again points to its past with two-seater coupés, such as the 2002 tii Touring in the 1970s and the BMW Z3 Coupé in the 1990s.

Six-cylinder from Z4 M40i

Although the name Z4 is avoided in the name of this one-off, it is clearly based on the Z4 M40i. So it has the same six-cylinder in-line engine with 335 hp in the long nose, coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Touring Coupé therefore has a fixed roof that extends nicely to the narrow rear window. A sharply cut spoiler and the large 21-inch rear wheels give the car a nice big butt, as befits a shooting brake.

For the interior, the Italian leather artist Poltrona Frau was allowed to give the existing Z4 interior a major upgrade. A dark brown leather was used for the top of the dashboard, a somewhat lighter brown for the seats and other interior parts. The luggage compartment – the eye-catcher of the car after all – got three leather straps on the floor. Of course, a custom-made bag set is also included.

According to BMW, it will remain with this one copy and there are no plans to take the car into production. And that’s a bit of a shame – but just like 25 years ago with the Z3 Coupé, there will be just as many people who think it’s ugly.
