BMW expands range of 2-series Coupé and 2-series Active Tourer

BMW opens a nice can of news today. In addition to the updated 8-series, there is also news for the 2-series Coupé, 2-series Active Tourer, 4-series Gran Coupé and smaller novelties for some other models.

2 Series Coupe

The main changes are aimed at BMW’s 2 Series Coupé and 2 Series Active Tourer. To start with the 2-series Coupé: that will get a version on the order list. The 230i, already announced last year at the unveiling, is now being pushed forward. As a 230i, the 2-series Coupé has a 2.0-liter biturbo four-cylinder in its nose, which pumps 245 hp power and 400 Nm of torque to the rear wheels. He does this via an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission, which can also be operated manually via paddle shifters behind the wheel. You also have access to Launch Control, with which the 230i from standstill to 100 km / h in 5.9 seconds to shoot. Optionally, you can go for an M Sport differential, to make the 230i even more sporty through bends than usual.

2 Series Active Tourer

The news for the 2-series Active Tourer is slightly less spectacular, but no less relevant. BMW is expanding the range with a four-wheel drive version of the most powerful option so far. The mild-hybrid 218 hp (system power) strong 223i also comes as 223i xDrive. Thanks to the four-wheel drive, the 2-series Active Tourer accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h just a little bit faster than usual. That now takes 6.9 seconds, compared to 7 seconds with the front-wheel drive version. Furthermore, BMW this year additional safety aids for the 2-series Active Tourer. For example, there will be Steering and Lane Guiding Assist, which can keep the car within the lines up to speeds of 180 km/h.

4 Series Gran Coupe

The arrival of a four-wheel drive variant is also the biggest news with the 4-series Gran Coupé. The 245 hp 430i also comes as a 430i xDrive. As with the 2 Series Active Tourer, the fact that there are two extra wheels involved in the 0-100 sprint scrapes off a fraction of the time. It now takes 6.1 seconds, again a tenth faster than the standard version.

X3, X4, i4 and M5

As mentioned, a few things have been conjured up for other models as well. For example, the BMW’s X3 and X4 are also available with Active Cruise Control, as BMW’s adaptive cruise control is called. At speeds between 30 km/h and 160 km/h, this can automatically adapt the set speed to traffic and keep the car at four different distances from the vehicle in front. Where desired, the car can also automatically reduce the speed to the maximum speed indicated on the traffic signs.

For the BMW’s i4 and 4-series Gran Coupé, several new colors will be available: Brilliant White metallic, Frozen Dark Gray metallic, Frozen Pure Gray metallic and Frozen Portimao Blue metallic. Also new is the M Carbon package, which provides both models with carbon fiber accents. A new range of leathers will also be available for both the i4 and 4-series Gran Coupé.

Finally, there is some nice news about the M5. New paint colors will be available, namely Sophisto Gray Brilliant Effect metallic, San Remo Green metallic, Skyscraper Gray metallic and Frozen Deep Gray metallic. However, it is a new detail that is probably the most appreciated: the historically justified logo with the distinctive M colors, in honor of the 50th anniversary of BMW M.

The whole package of novelties applies internationally from March. Information specific to the Dutch market, such as prices, is yet to be released.
