BMW is preparing a facelift for the 4-series and it is therefore not surprising that there is also innovation in the pipeline for the electric BMW i4. We now see the facelifted electrically powered brother of the 4-series Gran Coupé for the first time.

BMW has been testing the facelifted 4 Series since the beginning of the summer. For example, the BMW 4-series Coupé with camouflage stickers appeared in June and the BMW 4-series Gran Coupé followed in early August. The fact that the second one has already been updated was an important prelude to the appearance of a facelifted i4. After all, the 4-series Gran Coupé is, in short, the i4 with fuel power, or the i4 is an electric Gran Coupé, depending on how you want to look at it. Now the time has indeed come and we see the BMW i4 for the next round.

It will not surprise you that the facelifted BMW i4 – especially with the stickers still on it – looks exactly like the updated 4-series Gran CoupĂ©. At the front, it is particularly noticeable that BMW firmly sticks to the large kidney grille that distinguishes the 4-series and i4 from the 3-series. The design of the grille may change slightly, but that seems to be it. We also see slightly different headlights, with daytime running lights that look a bit more straightforward than is currently the case. We also see new light units at the back, in which we see in one of the photos that a very thin line of LED lighting now serves as a flashing light.

Furthermore, you can – as is almost self-evident with facelifts – count on some changed bumpers and updated infotainment. The BMW i4 is one of the models that gets BMW’s iDrive 8.5. The new version was presented in March this year. You can bet that a number of buttons in the BMW i4 will become redundant thanks to iDrive 8.5, making the interior a little tidier. Bad news in that respect for those who still want to operate things mainly via physical buttons. The question remains what the ‘Life Cycle Update’ means for the drivetrains, but there is a good chance that the BMW i4 will become more efficient and will therefore go further with a full battery. We do not expect the presentation of the new BMW i4 until 2024, although it cannot be completely ruled out that this will happen just before the turn of the year.
