On Instagram, a picture has surfaced of a BMW i4 that looks a bit sportier than the version with M-Sport package already announced in China. It would be the first M version of an electric BMW, which is probably called the BMW i4 M50.
For those who missed it: the BMW i4 is the electric version of the BMW 4-series Gran Coupé, of which the respective generation has not even been presented yet. BMW seems planning to set up a wide product portfolio for the i4, just like with the 4-series on petrol, with different engine versions, variants with optical M trim and also a real M version, although it could be that we from BMW should ranks among the ‘subtoppers’ like the M440i.
In terms of speed, however, the electric variant surpasses such an M440i. That is necessary, because an electric BMW with M-pretensions must of course be able to compete with the faster guys from the electric field. BMW therefore immediately announced that there will be a version with 530 hp and a 0-100 time of around 4 seconds and that seems to be this car.
Wrong
The i4 M, which may be called BMW i4 M50 due to its placement in the range, naturally also looks sportier than a regular i4. The difference with the M Sport version, so the i4 with optical M trim, is small, however. That is not surprising, because an M440i also only distinguishes itself on the level of detail from a 420i with an M package. The leaked photo, which was quickly stolen from Instagram Motor 1, shows an i4 with the bumpers of the M-sport version. However, the car seems to be a bit closer to the street and we take away an M logo in the grille, something that we know has never been shown before, outside a large group of ‘wrong’ BMW drivers.
Biped
The exterior mirrors are also different and seem to come straight from the M4 with their two-legged design. Of course, the i4 M also has unique wheels and the typical blue color should not be missing. Incidentally, this seems to be an American version, as evidenced by the orange ‘side marker’ directly in front of the front wheel.
The unveiling of the first electric M model is reportedly scheduled for June 1.
