BMW has chosen the exhibition floor of Auto Shanghai as the stage to introduce the new sporty top version of the i7. The electric BMW i7 M70 xDrive is a rock-solid M Performance version with 660 hp and no less than 1,100 Nm of beastly electric power.

During the introduction of the new 7 Series and its electric derivative – the i7 – BMW already announced the arrival of a sporty M Performance version. It would be called the i7 M70 and has now been presented to the international public as the BMW i7 M70 xDrive during Auto Shanghai. Entirely as expected, the BMW i7 M70 xDrive is considerably more powerful than the most powerful 544 hp i7 xDrive60 to date.

The BMW i7 M70 xDrive has a system power of no less than 660 hp and 1,100 Nm. The sporty electric top sedan draws these powers from a 489 hp electric motor on the rear axle and a 258 hp powerful one on the front axle. For the full 1,100 Nm you have to activate the M Sport Boost mode and M Launch Control. In the regular Sport Mode you will not be short of anything with 1,015 Nm. Those newton meters are enough to help the no less than 2,770 kilos weighing i7 M70 xDrive to a speed of 100 km / h in 3.7 seconds. This makes it faster than the BMW i4 M50 and that makes the electric colossus the fastest sprinting electric BMW ever. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.
In the bottom of the BMW i7 M70 xDrive is a battery pack with a usable capacity of no less than 101.7 kWh. There the fantastic beast squeezes out a range of 488 to 560 kilometers. According to BMW, you can only achieve that maximum range with the new Max Range driving mode in which the power is reduced and certain comfort-enhancing things are also switched off. Fast charging is possible with up to 195 kW.

No M Performance model without the necessary M attributes and so the gentlemen and ladies of M have tackled the i7 properly. The M-department leaves its mark on the suspension, the steering and the way in which the forces are distributed over the wheels. Integral Active Steering and Executive Drive Pro, as well as active roll stabilization with Active Roll Comfort, are standard, as are M brakes and 21-inch M light alloy. From the outside you can recognize the M70 xDrive by its M-typical side mirrors, black accents, side skirts and a rear bumper with a diffuser at the bottom. The sportiest i7 is also available in a special two-tone color scheme in which you can now also combine special BMW Individual colours.

And inside? There, too, the BMW i7 M70 exudes an M atmosphere. The electric top limo gets illuminated M door sills, M Merino leather on the furniture, a leather-covered steering wheel and those who want it can also get a combination of Merino leather and wool on the seats. Also, BMW’s Operating System 8.5 is already finding its way to the M70 Drive.
BMW will launch the i7 M70 in the second half of this year. Specifications for the Dutch market are not yet available.
