BMW i7 makes itself heard

BMW i7

BMW is coming with an all-electric version of the upcoming new 7-series. The brand is already showing that i7 while it is being subjected to acoustic tests.

Unlike BMW, Mercedes-Benz does not come up with a separate electric model in the high luxury segment. At least, the brand gives its upcoming electric flagship its own name, but that’s it. BMW’s electric top sedan is called i7, but is in fact an all-electric variant of the new 7-series. We expect BMW to present both the new 7-series and electric i7 this year. Today BMW shows another set of images of the electric i7 undergoing acoustic testing in Munich.

Due to the almost complete lack of engine noise, wind and driving noises in the interior of an electric car are more noticeable. So it’s no wonder that BMW is doing its best with the i7 to allow as little noise as possible to penetrate the interior. BMW has summoned none other than composer Hans Zimmer to compose an ‘engine sound’ that can be heard in the interior of the i7.

Just like the new 7-series, the i7 will have a stubborn front with layered lighting. The headlights are placed quite low in the nose, the LED daytime running lights get a spot above it. The kidney grille promises to be hefty, but probably doesn’t get the size of the nose piece on the 4 Series and i4. There are no technical specifications yet.
