BMW M635 CSi – Into the Wild

BMW M635 CSi – Into the Wild

At this time of year it is usually a bit more difficult to capture special cars on the sensitive plate. Wouter Bregman, however, has been very lucky, because this AutoWeek forum user has recently been the purveyor of ‘In the Wild’. This M635 CSi is a beautiful stunner to usher in the holidays!

According to contemporary nomenclature, the M635 CSi would rather be a sub-top of the series, but nothing could be further from the truth in this case. The M635 CSi was BMW’s cream of the crop. In America, the same model was called M6, but it was less powerful than the 286 hp 3.5-liter six-in-line that can be found in the nose of the M635. Incidentally, that was also reflected in the price, because the M635 CSi cost in the Netherlands at the time more than €83,000 (about 180,000 guilders). For comparison: for the also 286 hp strong E28 M5 you lost about €69,000 (152,000 guilders) at the time. If you were also satisfied with a little less, you could also go for the M535i, the then equivalent of the contemporary M550i.

The example that Wouter encountered on the street is one from after the facelift in 1982. That facelift meant that the 6-series no longer shared its chassis with the E12 5-series, but with the E28 mentioned earlier. That more modern platform reportedly ensured, among other things, that the 6-series from after the facelift drove a lot better than its predecessor. This red M635 CSi comes from 1984 and was brought to the Netherlands in 1993. He has had two owners here since then: the first owned it for no less than 17 years, from the import date until 2010. The second owner has been on the road for a while now, because he can call himself the proud owner of this beautiful BMW since 2012. . Fortunately, the cold weather is not shunned, so we can give this former range topper a place of honor in this section!
