NACS connection
The BMW Group and its brands join a rapidly growing list of car manufacturers that will use the NACS charging connections introduced by Tesla in North America.
BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce all embrace Tesla’s NACS chargers. The brands are following the example of Ford, GM, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Nissan, Hyundai and Kia, among others. The North American Charging Standard is therefore increasingly becoming what the name suggests: the standard charging connection in North America. It will just take a while before that happens, because like many other manufacturers, it still takes some time to switch to the NACS ports.
BMW reports that the three brands will include NACS charging ports as standard on their models in early 2025. Not only that; After all, BMW is also working with six other car manufacturers on a charging network in the US that will eventually allow charging with NACS chargers in addition to CCS chargers. Very handy, of course. The BMW Group works together with General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz and Stellantis. This collaboration, announced last summer, should lead to a network of at least 30,000 charging points. The first charging stations should open next summer.
