A small group of BMW Motorrad employees had the opportunity to develop a uncompromising custom bike with BMW Motorrad Leadership and precision in the smallest detail. That has resulted in the BMW R 1300 R “Titan” – brutally and aggressive, beautiful and extraordinary, fast and precise – to win.
Just for the record, that “brutal … built to win” are not our words, but those of BMW Motorrad in the press release of the R 1300 R “Titan”. As part of an extraordinary project, Philipp Ludwig worked as a project manager, vehicle designer Andreas Martin, Theresa Stukenbrock as color and graphic designer and prototype builders Paul Summerer and Thomas Becker, who introduced their experience and passion in the project, to create a unique vehicle.
The team took the basic elements of the new BMW R 1300 R and translated them into the aggressive lines of a dragster Racer. The characteristic lines of the BMW R 1300 R Tank and Kuip are reflected in the monocoque that is typical of racem machines and the striking air inlet of the standard machine continues the dynamics of the “Titan” in an exaggerated sense.
Visually the weight is pushed over the front wheel to keep it on the asphalt for as long as possible. The total proportions of the motorcycle are compactly structured around the center: the 1300 cc boxer engine. The bicycle part of the Titan has been developed in consultation with suspension specialist Wilbers and is a custom unit with an extended rear bridge, to maximize the power delivery of the standard engine block to the rear wheel, while retaining a layer and aggressive profile.
Akrapovic, a partner of BMW Motorrad for years, assisted in the development of the BMW R 1300 R “Titan”. This collaboration enabled the team to design an extensive Titanium Akrapovic exhaust system that strengthens the powerful character of this custom motorcycle, both visually and acoustically. The outlet runs from the two cylinders, briefly comes together under the motorcycle and ends in a boxer style, two-flow exhaust under the towering, aggressive rising back.
Between the two titanium final dampers is an aggressive -looking laughing gas bottle that provides the injection system with laughing gas with the push of a button. Once the oxygen boost has arrived in the engine, the BMW R 1300 R “Titan” is catapulted via an accurately designed transmission and cardan drive towards the finish 400 meters away, while the braking performance is entrusted to a high-spec Magura HC3 caliper.
For optimum support and posture for dragster racing, the footrests are placed very far back. According to BMW, the BMW R 1300 R “Titan” is a custom bike that embodies BMW Motorrad’s passion and precision in every detail, times for the quarter-mile sprint has not announced BMW.
