BMW recalls all post-2008 four-cylinder models: oil filter can vibrate loose

BMW has rolled out a recall for all four-cylinder models from 2008 onwards. On some bikes, the oil filter can become loose when riding at high revs. If the oil filter becomes loose, oil can spill onto the road surface. This increases the risk of an accident.

BMW recalls all post-2008 four-cylinder models: oil filter can vibrate loose

At BMW Motorrad they have once again had to initiate a serious recall campaign. The Germans have discovered that the oil filter sold at BMW Motorrad dealers as a replacement part for the 2008 to 2024 four-cylinder models may not have been manufactured properly. This could cause the oil filter to vibrate loose at high speeds, with all the associated dangers.

At best, it remains just a few drops of oil on the ground (although this is now considered a serious environmental offence), but it can also end up on the rear tire causing a crash, or on the exhaust with the risk of fire.

This means that all post-2008 four-cylinder models can be returned to the BMW Motorrad dealer for an oil filter inspection. If necessary, the oil filter will be replaced. The recall applies to all model years of the S 1000 R, S 1000 RR, S 1000 XR, HP4, HP4 Race, M 1000 R, M 1000 RR and finally the M 1000 XR.
