No pickup for BMW

Just like Audi, BMW is still very reluctant to add a pick-up to its delivery range. That is what BMW’s design boss Adrian van Hooydonk says to the BMW enthusiasts of BMWBlog.
Audi recently said in conversation with AutoWeek that there are currently no plans on the table to enter one of the pick-up segments that are so popular, especially in the United States. Nor does it intend to drill into the pick-up barrel, chief designer Adrian van Hooydonk told BMWBlog.
“A pick-up is not something that typically suits BMW. We don’t have to participate in every trend,” says Van Hooydonk. In addition, BMW’s design boss says that the certain type of model does not only want to be introduced for a short time. “When we dive into a segment, we want to focus on it for the long term. ” With that, BMW seems to fear that a pick-up is a one-off exercise. No doubt BMW can also remember Mercedes-Benz’s X-class, a pick-up based on the Nissan Navara that was only available from 2017 to and was in production by 2020 and which did not bring Mercedes-Benz great success.
In mid-2019, BMW once showed an X7 converted into a pickup. That BMW X7 Pick-Up called gigant-with-a flatbed came about thanks to BMW Group trainees who worked with BMW’s department that produces concept cars. So it won’t come. Like Audi, BMW – unlike Mercedes-Benz – is not concerned with commercial vehicles. It is logical in that respect that Mercedes-Benz did and Audi and BMW did not dare to come up with a pick-up.
