The BMW X8 has been spotted again. The future SUV top model can be seen from all angles, but is still largely shrouded in mystery.
We’ve known for a while: BMW is working on an X8. The already gigantic and still quite fresh X7 is therefore not enough, because the manufacturer from Munich sees room for an even more expensive top SUV. The question is how exactly that car is positioned.
For starters, it appears that the X8 is being developed by BMW’s M department. Then it seems perfectly logical that it will be a sportier, coupé-like top model next to the X7. This would make the X8 compare to the X7 like an Audi Q8 does to the Audi Q7, albeit at an (even) higher level. After all, the X5 is also seen as a Q7 rival.
Sporty?
The ‘problem’ with this theory, however, is that the car that shows up again and again in camouflaged form, does not seem to be very sporty. Okay, the model is being chased over the Nürburgring here with due speed, but its bodywork shows a less sporty shape. The nose is remarkably square, the windshield is noticeably upright and the roof, unlike ‘coupé SUVs’ X4 and X6, runs straight backwards.
At the same time, the carriage is clearly less focused on practicality than that of the X7. So we keep it that the X8 focuses less on offering as much space as possible and instead shines in terms of luxury and driving characteristics.
Shock
Well, we’d be upset: it has been clear for a long time that an SUV doesn’t need to have a clearly defined place in the market to be successful.
The carriage also seems to be ‘striking’ to say the least. Take the front, which appears to be built up of two layers and, in addition to a gigantic grille, also houses quite striking lighting units. BMW is apparently far from finished shocking its audience and gives the X7 a similar front in the not too distant future.
