BMW’s first standalone M model will be a large SUV named XM. It is that BMW XM that can be seen from all angles in these spy photos.
For the time being, the X7 may call itself the king of BMW’s SUV range, but that will change later this year when BMW brings the XM on the market. The XM becomes a behemoth with a sloping roofline, an aggressive front and stacked tailpipes on either side of the rear. One by one things to emphasize the sportiness of the model, after all, the XM is called XM because BMW’s M division has interfered with its development.
Yes, the packed giant in these photos is the first BMW model to be produced purely and exclusively in an M version. At least, that’s what BMW initially claimed. However, do not be surprised if BMW will eventually fill the gap between the X7 and XM with milder versions that may be sold under the model name X8. Back to the XM, because that promises to be a real powerhouse. In November 2021 BMW showed the Concept XM, a preview of the XM with a 750 hp and 1,000 Nm plug-in hybrid powertrain. The combustion engine is not a four-cylinder, not even a six-cylinder, but a mighty V8. Count on a similar power for the production version and with that it will probably be the strongest M model ever. The front that the XM is fitted with seeps to a certain extent to the X7, which will be facelifted in due course.
BMW has already announced the arrival of the XM for this year, so we expect the production version to hit showrooms sometime in the second half of this year. The XM will soon be built in the American Spartanburg, where BMW is already screwing together various other X models.
