Spyshots BMW Z4 facelift

The BMW Z4 will be four years old this year, which means that a facelifted version has been thought long and wide in Munich. That upgraded BMW Z4 can be seen for the first time in this set of photos, although the roadster is still quite in the camouflage patches.

BMW introduced the current ‘G29’ range of the Z4 to the world in August 2018. The third-generation Z4 exchanged, among other things, the steel folding roof of its direct predecessor for a fabric roof. For the first time in the Z4’s existence, the roadster received a technical sister model from another manufacturer: the Toyota Supra. The Z4 is of course not a sales stunner for BMW and so it does not surprise us that the Z4 is not exactly thoroughly renewed based on these spy photos.

Despite the fact that BMW has covered the entire body of the test sample with a psychedelic sticker sheet, the adjustments seem to be limited to the grille and bumpers. If the BMW Z4 actually gets new lighting at the front and rear, those new light units will in any case not be on this test model. Furthermore, it is theoretically possible that BMW will give the Z4, just like the 3-series, a renewed dashboard with the curved panel in which the instruments and infotainment system are housed. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if BMW decides to leave the inside for what it is, given the small sales numbers of the Z4.

BMW Z4 manual gearbox

An unknown face in the Netherlands: the BMW Z4 with manual transmission.

The BMW Z4 is available in the Netherlands with four and six cylinders. The entry-level version is the 194 hp Z4 sDrive20i, a taste that the rear-wheel drive sDrive30i with 258 hp 2.0 four-cylinder has above it. The M40i is the top version, this four-wheel drive variant has the 340 hp 3.0 six-in-line in its nose. In the Netherlands, all Z4s are equipped with an automatic transmission, but that does not mean the current generation Z4 has to do without a manual. In Germany, among others, BMW supplies the Z4 sDrive20i with a manual six-speed gearbox.

BMW Z4

Spread over three generations, BMW has sold a total of 3,624 Z4s in the Netherlands. Predecessor Z3 was good for a total of 3,128 units delivered in the Netherlands. In 2021 BMW sold 226 Z4s in our country. There were more than the X2 (205 pieces), X4 (204 pieces), 7-series (186 pieces), 8-series (130 pieces), X6 (122 pieces), X7 (66 pieces) and the almost already forgotten 6 series Gran Turismo.
